Learn Russian

Russian language is a Slavic language from the family of Indo-European languages and and lingua franca in all former USSR countries and much of Eastern Europe.

Russian language has taken it’s origin from old-Ukrainian language. Due to the Defence Language Institute in Monterey, California, Russian language is categorized in definitions of learning difficulty as a level 3 for native English speakers.  Despite of such reputation learn Russian language is not so difficult  because of its fascination and mysteriousness.

If you study Russian language you will open the way not only to the world's largest country, but also to the large group of ex-USSR and others countries with a wide diversity of peoples, cultures, religions, climatic and geographic conditions.

From the Baltic and Black Sea to the Pacific Ocean, knowledge of Russian language is an important asset in international communication. If you learn Russian language it will be easy for you when travelling to any of these countries, converse to native people and familiarize yourself with new cultures.

Russian language is one of the 6 official languages of the United Nations (so if you want to work for the United Nation, speaking Russian language and, for example, English language would be a very good benefit).

 You can also find big Russian language speaking groups in countries-ex-members of the Warsaw Pact and others such as Poland, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Albania, Cuba and Israel. Great Russian-speaking groups also exist in USA and Canada. According to the US 2000 Census, Russian language is the main language spoken in the homes of over 0,2%  of population.

Great Russian language speaking communities also exist in Western Europe in UK, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain, Belgium, France, Norway, Austria; you can find Russian language speaking Finns (about 1% of the population) in Finland, but the biggest Russian language speaking group in Western Europe leaves in Germany with about 3 million people.  Australian cities Sydney and Melbourne also have Russian language speaking populations.

Russian is the 4th most spoken language in the world. Just image the opportunities you will get if you learn Russian language. You could make a lot of new friends while study Russian language in Russia or in its Motherland - Ukraine or in neighbouring Belorussia, make business with businessmen from ex-republic of USSR.  It’s really a great possibility to learn more about the Russian culture in particular and Slavic culture at all. Russia is home to some of the world’s best composers such as Stravinsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninoff, etc.

2/3 of the world’s literature treasury is filled by Russian authors like Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Pushkin, Lermontov, Esenin, Nabokov, Pasternak, Tiutchev, Mandelshtam, Tsvetaeva. When you study Russian language it will help to understand their masterpieces of literature and poetry in the very essential meaning of their works.

Russia is extremely rich in famous historical  characters such us Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Great, Empress Catherine the Great, Generalissimo Alexander Suvorov, Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov,  Rasputin, Lenin, Stalin and a lot of others. Can you think of a more intriguing set of historical persons? 

Great achievements in military, scientific, cosmonautics, technological and IT matters, gave Russian scientists a worldwide prestige.  Just think of such names as Mikhail Lomonosov, Dmitri Mendeleev, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Sofia Kovalevskaya, Mikhail Kalashnikov, Andrei Sakharov, Nikolai Basov, Alexander Popov, Ivan Pavlov and many -many others.

In our days Russia is one of the biggest players in the global economy and companies trading with Russia need qualified employees speaking Russian language to find new markets and improve business. The unlimited commercial opportunities emerging from the expanding Russian economy. All companies which do business with ex-Soviet countries  have created numerous job opportunities for those with multiple language skills.

If you study Russian language, you can watch Russian movies, enjoy Russian music and read Russian books, newspapers and magazines many of which are accessible from the internet. And for sure when you learn Russian language you will grow intellectually and socially because it opens the door to the endless mass of human achievements and knowledge.
