Montpellier is situated in southern France. Montpellier is the capital city of the Languedoc-Roussillon region. The city is located on the River Lez, around 10 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. The name Montpellier, which in the beginning was Monspessulanus, came from mont pelé (the hill without trees), or le mont de la colline (the hill’s mount).
Montpellier's top location is the Place du Peyrou, which is of 57 m altitude. The city stays on two hills, Montpellier and Montpelliéret. Because of this fact streets of Montpellier are very different in terms of altitude. Quite a few of the streets are narrow and old, giving you some intimate feeling when walking around.
Montpellier is known to be a top destination for foreign students and is the first French city (after Paris) for courses of French. Because of a mild climate and beaches nearby, bourgeoning student life and low cost of living (in comparison with other French regions), Montpellier is popular among country’s visitors.

Montpellier is distinguished as a historic as well as university town. It is the economic and cultural centre of the Languedoc-Roussillon region of the French Republic. Students have a possibility to do shopping and see interesting places in Montpellier. They may visit châteaux and museums, enjoy great wine and famous French cuisine, relax on the nearby beaches and entertain themselves participating in the special evenings and other school and city activities. Montpellier is a top location for a language school, so you are welcome to learn French and enjoy!
